Le Cabine del Paradiso – VI. Giove is a mural created by artist Neve in July 2021 in Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, commissioned by E-Distribuzione (Enel Group) under the patronage of the Ministero della Cultura.
One of nine electrical distribution cabins across Italy commissioned by E-Distribuzione for the 700th anniversary of Dante's death, each corresponding to a Heaven of the Paradiso read through a hermetic and alchemical framework. The project carries the patronage of the Ministero della Cultura and uses Aerlite photocatalytic paint. The sixth Heaven is Jupiter (Giove) — the sphere of just rulers, those who governed with equity and wisdom. In Dante's Paradiso, the souls of just rulers arrange themselves into the shape of an eagle — the symbol of empire and of justice — and speak to Dante of divine law. In the alchemical tradition, Jupiter is tin — associated with expansion, order, the principle of law that governs both kings and planets. Ravenna is the location with the deepest resonance in the project: it is here that Dante died in 1321, and where his tomb stands. The choice of Ravenna for Jupiter — the heaven of justice — carries that weight. Dante himself was never given justice by his city, dying in exile, and was returned to Florence only in effigy, centuries later. The tall substation tower in Ravenna carries two figures in a Baroque-Caravaggesque idiom, painted across its full height. The upper figure is a woman in dark robes, commanding and forward-leaning, reaching downward or outward — authority reaching toward the world below. The lower figure is younger, crowned with a laurel wreath, wrapped in white, and holds in both hands a pair of golden scales: the scales of justice, gleaming against the monochromatic ground. The ♃ symbol of Jupiter appears near a full orb of light in the upper portion of the composition, set into the cloud-grey sky of the painted atmosphere.
