Riflesso

A reflection on an electrical cabinet — the Giro d'Italia passes and leaves an image behind.

Riflesso is a mural created by artist Neve in May 2022 in Imperia, for E-Distribuzione (Enel Group) as part of the Giro d'Italia 2022 partnership.

An E-Distribuzione commission for the 2022 Giro d'Italia, executed at Imperia in May 2022. The subject is a single hyperrealist eye — extreme close-up, grey-black ground, the iris rendered with precise detail — traversed by lines of pink and neon-white energy: electric arcs, or the kinetic traces of light in motion. The same image appears on two different surfaces: an electrical distribution cabinet installed in the territory, and a large-scale wall on a building facade. The cabinet carries on its side panel the E-Distribuzione and Giro d'Italia Partner Ufficiale 2022 branding. The wall version was documented at night with long-exposure photography, producing curving and intersecting trails of pink and white light across the surface of the painted eye — the photograph and the mural becoming a single image. The eye as subject recurs in Neve's work as a point of crossing between the inner and outer world — what looks out and what is seen. The neon lines that cross it carry the visual language of electricity and velocity: the cable, the circuit, the road.
