Confagricoltura
size
This live painting was created by artist Neve in September 2024 in Siracusa, for the G7 ministerial summit for Agriculture organized by Confagricoltura.
A live painting produced in September 2024 for Confagricoltura — Italy's principal agricultural employers' confederation — at the G7 for Agriculture, held in Siracusa, Sicily. The work was created in real time during the event, against the sea at dusk on the Sicilian waterfront. The panel carries a dark, almost black ground. At its centre: a human figure — a face and hands — surrounded by the abundance of the agricultural world: dense green produce, fruit, leaves rendered with hyperrealist precision against the deep ground. Across the entire composition, a network of white circular nodes and connecting lines is superimposed — the visual language of technology, connectivity, and data applied to the living world of growing things. Agriculture as both ancient practice and modern system; the farmer's hands in relationship with the infrastructure of global food production. The setting adds a further register. On the Piazza del Duomo in Siracusa, the Confagricoltura installation included a large circular mirror disc bearing the confederation's logo — reflecting the Baroque facade of the Cathedral of Syracuse and the Sicilian sky in its surface. Sicily, one of Italy's most important agricultural regions, as the fitting location for an event about the future of European and global food systems. Neve is visible at the far right of the group photograph taken at the conclusion of the live painting, spray cans at his feet, the completed panel behind him. Also present in the photograph: Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, and Alessandro Giuli, Minister of Culture.
